The Instructional Technology Program presents DEMYSTIFYING QUICKTIME VR January 26th from noon to 1:30 3110 Etcheverry Hall Please join us for an informal brown-bag lunch presentation to learn about QuickTime VR, a technology that can be used to create interactive immersive environments-including panoramic scenes and objects that appear to rotate-based on either photographs or computer-generated images. Affordable creation and playback tools are available for both Macintosh and Windows operating systems. In this presentation, faculty and staff will demonstrate and discuss some QuickTime VR projects, emphasizing instructional applications as well as strengths and limitations of this technology. We'll also go over the equipment and process necessary to make QuickTime VR movies. Presenters include Professor Ruth Tringham and her GSR, Michael Ashley, who have been using QuickTime VR in their archaeology classes; Don Bain, Manager of the Geography Computing Facility, who has created one of the largest collections of photographic QuickTime VR movies; Gan Golan, who specializes in computer-generated QuickTime VR; Robert Lettieri, multimedia courseware specialist in the Berkeley Instructional Technology Studio; and Judy Stern, the Instructional Technology Program's multimedia specialist and author of several books (with Robert Lettieri) on QuickTime. (Facilities and additional technical support provided by the Berkeley Instructional Technology Studio, College of Engineering.) This is the first of a series of presentations entitled DEMYSTIFYING TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING, events designed to introduce UC Berkeley faculty, lecturers, GSIs and staff to technologies that can enhance teaching and learning. The focus in each presentation will be on practical information that can help attendees determine if specific technologies might realistically be used in their teaching. If there's sufficient interest, ITP may also hold follow-up hands-on workshops. If you have questions about this presentation or suggestions for future topics for this series, please contact Judy Stern, jstern@socrates.berkeley.edu. -------------------------------------------------------------------- FISC and CDUG are sponsored by the Instructional Technology Program (http://www.itp.berkeley.edu), a unit of Information Systems and Technology.
