domain
As used in this document, any hierarchical segment of DNS namespace under the root domain.
gTLD
"Global top level domain"; a top level domain open to registration from all parts of the world.
RA
"Registration authority"; an organization that sells/licenses domain names to the public, and keeps its database in sync with root name servers, e.g. InterNIC.
SLD
"Second level domain"; a domain one level under a TLD, e.g. berkeley.edu.
TLD
A top level domain, one right under the root domain. Examples include .com and .se.
