John Sanborn is a video and multimedia artist who has created works for computer firms such as Adobe and Apple's Personal Interactive Entertainment (Apple PIE), as well as for entertainment firms such as Colossal Pictures. Sanborn has employed advanced technology in his work since the late 1970s. Often working in collaboration with avant-garde composers, dancers, and performers, his pieces have "shown a highly kinetic sense of graphic composition".
In this presentation, Sanborn talked about how new technologies make it easy for an individual to produce professional-looking multimedia programs, but that new technologies cannot themselves provide good ideas. He also discussed what it is like to work as an artist within the computer industry. His presentation included examples of his work using common Macintosh applications such as Adobe's Premier. He showed excerpts from the forthcoming Media Band, a collection of interactive music videos produced for Apple PIE.
