Bequest of Margaret Watson Parker, through Dr. Walter R. Parker

1948/1.116

This blue, turquoise and black iridised glazed chalice was purchased by Miss Margaret Watson in New York City on February 27, 1905, for $500.00 from the Parisian dealer Siegfried Bing through his agent, Miss Marie Nordlinger. Watsons purchase of this vessel reflects the influence of Charles Lang Freers intense interest in Rakka ware. Freer acquired his first example in 1902. The surfaces found on these objects were iridescent from the degradation of glazes by the action of salts.
